Be Still...

How hard is it to be still?
Seriously...think about it...
Got a good grasp on it?? Thought about it?? As humans we struggle with stillness. There’s always work to do, groceries to buy, errands to run, family gatherings to attend...etc. Being still is something that I struggle with at least once a day. By the time Friday rolls around, I already have a weekend full of plans just because it’s my only free time. But the question is...how much of that time are we still...still in God’s word, still in His presence, still in the time with ourselves.

Psalm 46:10 (NLT) provides us with the direction of being still. "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” The word still is a translation of the Hebrew word rapa, meaning “to slacken, let down, or cease.” Sometimes it means “to drop, be weak, or faint.” There’s a war that we fight where we want control of our situation, our feelings or control of the outcome. As Christians we look to stillness as being quiet in God’s presence. Quiet…I know it’s a difficult word. There’s a peace when we are just quiet and listening to God. It’s in these times that we can really hear Him. He speaks to us when we are not constantly thinking about ourselves, our deadlines, our lists of things to do and people to see. He speaks to us through His word and the time we spend in the word.
Now if most of you have read my posts you see that inspirational Christian music plays an important role in my life. It helps me be still and be in God’s presence. It helps me see things more clearly of how God is working in my life and the lives of those around me. It is the one thing that makes me stop doing whatever it is that I’m doing at that moment and just surrender to Him. Take a listen to “Still” by Hillary Scott and The Scott Family. If defines ‘being still’ in the most simple way.
You're parting waters Making a way for me You're moving mountains that I don't even see You've answered my prayer before I even speak All You need for me to be is still
He has already moved mountains, parted waters, answered prayers before we even speak, think or act. Our God is a God of love, one that knows our needs long before we even know them. When we are still in His presence we can start to see the work He is doing in our lives during this season of waiting, this season of doubt, this season of fear. When we know our God and acknowledge Him, we can trust that surrendering our plans, wants, fears to Him we allow His plan to work in us.
I encourage you today to Be Still and listen to the words of God, surrender to Him and the plans He has for your life.
