Seasons. That is one thing that we all have in common. It's one thing that we have in our personal lives and it's the one thing that no matter where we live, the seasons change.
Right now...it's winter in Winnipeg.
Winter is the one season I could do without! Winter roads are dangerous! They can be filled with lots of snow and very slippery. The other thing about winter...it's cold. Cold all the time! But...the one thing we can look forward to is that spring will arrive. The seasons are the continually changing. It's something to look forward to and I haven't met one person who doesn't have a favorite season. Mine is fall. Only for sweater season and Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha's!!
Seasons are something that we go through in our lives too. We have seasons of friendships and relationships. We have seasons with jobs. We have seasons with our own personal journeys. Seasons change. They bloom, grow, wilt and die. It's inevitable. Now I don't want to make you sad...I have a point!
Like the frost on a rose
Winter comes for us all
Oh how nature acquaints us
With the nature of patience
Patience. When we are in winter, even then it's long, we have to have patience to know that spring is coming. This goes for our season of waiting. (see tying it all together now...lol)
It's natural to have impatience. We are a society of wanting things right away. The above quote is from a song that has quickly become my anthem. It's called Seasons (appropriate...I know) by Hillsong Worship and after listening to it over and over again, it called to me. It reminded me of the promise God has for me. The promise He has for all of us.
Like a seed in the snow I’ve been buried to grow For Your promise is loyal From seed to sequoia
Look at your life, your journey, and your season of waiting as a seed. This desire, this journey that we seek was buried in the harshest of seasons and was expected to grow. Patience, through the cold and through the snow, we will grow.
Though the winter is long even richer The harvest it brings

This time is the hardest. It's the times when we want to give up. Throw it all in and wonder why we desired anything to begin with. These tests are what make us the people we become. It grows our character. We become strong. We become resilient. Our roots dig in deep to believing the promise to come. We are strengthened. We grow...like a seed to a sequoia tree.

If you check out Ecclesiastes 3:1-22 it speaks about how there is a season for everything. My favourite parts of this passage is verse 14, "I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him." and verse 22, "So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?"
We cannot rush the promise. We cannot rush the work God has for each of us. We cannot rush the seasons. I encourage each of us to take a look at the seasons. Take a look at the seasons of our lives. Meditate on what God is saying to you in this season. Is He asking you to be patient? Is He bringing you a blessing and you're missing it? Is He opening opportunities for you? Don't rush...read, worship, speak to Him. Let Him work in you and show you what He wants from you in this season.
I can see the promise I can see the future You’re the God of seasons I’m just in the winter If all I know of harvest Is that it’s worth my patience Then if You’re not done working God I’m not done waiting You can see my promise Even in the winter Cause You’re the God of greatness Even in a manger For all I know of seasons Is that You take Your time You could have saved us in a second Instead You sent a child
The passage above is my anthem. To be honest, when I'm home I'm singing and declaring this louder than the rest of the song. It reminds me that no matter the wait, no matter the patience I may lose, He is loyal. If all I know of harvest, is that it's worth my patience. Then if YOU'RE not done working, God I'm not done waiting. And when I finally see my tree, still I believe there’s a season to come.

Like a seed You were sown For the sake of us all From Bethlehem’s soil
Grew Calvary’s sequoia
Take a look at a seed. Imagine it as Bethlehem. Take a look at a sequoia. Imagine it as Calvary. God planted His son in the manger at Bethlehem. He knew the plan that He had for His Son would be Calvary. What has God planted in you that you are waiting to grow like a sequoia? What promise is He going to give you?
